Raster charts:

Format description:

A raster nautical chart sometimes called matrix represents the image of a nautical chart associated with complete geo-referencing information allowing to know with great precision the position of each point of the chart. The old raster charts were originally the scan reproductions of a paper charts. This type of chart is very comfortable to use and has all the details that can be found on a paper chart.

Raster charts are generally distributed in BSB 1,2 and 3 format.

We recognize them in the following way:

BSB1: 1 CHARTHDR folder + 1 folder per chart

BSB 2, 3: KAP files

The United States distributes all their cartography free of charge in BSB 3 format.

SHOM now distributes its raster charts in GeoTIFF format. Only the installation differs but you will not see a difference in use.
