Using a smartphone's GPS with
StarNavPilot:
You
want to use StarNavPilot but do not have a NMEA GPS to communicate the
positioning data to the software. On the other hand, you have a smartphone that
includes a GPS. You can easily use this GPS to position yourself on StarNavPilot
using a Wifi wireless connection even out of range of any network, without any
GSM plan, data or even a SIM card. You can use an old smartphone that you no
longer use to communicate or your usual phone. All you have to do is install a
GPS sharing application (Share GPS) via TCP / UDP connection on this smartphone.
In the NMEA tab of StarNavPilot select the Wifi communication engine. With its
default settings, StarNavPilot uses port 10110 generally used for NMEA
transmission over Wifi, but you can change the number of the port used in the
positioning engine configuration to match the one used by the application
installed on your smartphone (this is the only setting to be made). If you
already have a Wifi network provided by any device (router) on board, connect
your computer and your smartphone to it so that they can communicate. If this is
not the case, simply activate the connection sharing on your smartphone (even in
the absence of any 3/4G data connection). A Wifi network is then created, with
its DNS server, to which you can connect your computer.
Now you have a
Wifi GPS connected to StarNavPilot. All GPS information is now available in the
program.
